Demonstration of a chip-based optical isolator with parametric amplification
Despite being fundamentally challenging in integrated (nano)photonics, achieving chip-based light non-reciprocity becomes increasingly urgent in signal processing and optical communications. Because of material incompatibilities in conventional approaches based on the Faraday effect, alternative solutions have resorted to nonlinear processes to obtain one-way transmission. However, dynamic reci...
متن کاملGeneration of high-purity higher-order Laguerre-Gauss beams at high laser power.
We have investigated the generation of highly pure higher-order Laguerre-Gauss (LG) beams at high laser power of order 100 W, the same regime that will be used by second-generation gravitational wave interferometers such as Advanced LIGO. We report on the generation of a helical-type LG33 mode with a purity of order 97% at a power of 83 W, the highest power ever reported in literature for a hig...
متن کاملSlab-based Faraday isolators and Faraday mirrors for 10-kW average laser power.
It is shown that the use of slabs instead of rods makes it possible to fabricate Faraday isolators and Faraday mirrors operating at a multikilowatt power. Analytical dependences of thermally induced depolarization in Faraday devices on radiation power and on slab aspect ratio have been obtained.
متن کاملPractical speed meter designs for quantum nondemolition gravitational-wave interferometers
In the quest to develop viable designs for third-generation optical interferometric gravitational-wave detectors ~e.g., LIGO-III and EURO!, one strategy is to monitor the relative momentum or speed of the test-mass mirrors, rather than monitoring their relative position. A previous paper analyzed a straightforward but impractical design for a speed-meter interferometer that accomplishes this. T...
متن کاملOptical Torques in Suspended Fabry-Perot Interferometers
High-power Fabry-Perot cavities with suspended mirrors are employed in gravitational wave detection. The mirrors in such interferometers are subject to forces and torques that are exerted by light pressure. This article derives a closed-form expression for the static torsional stiffness due to this effect. The torsional stiffness is shown to scale as the fourth power of the beam spot size. In p...
